Sleep is a vital necessity. Without it, the body and mind can’t function properly. Without it, dreams wouldn’t exist. Dreams are like a portal into the most intimate thoughts, desires, wants and needs hidden within the mind. Therefore, the understanding of dreams plays a key factor in self-analysis.
Interesting Fact: Dreams at night might even be a portal that takes us to a different dimension or universe, but that’s something else entirely. While doing my research on dreams, I came across some pretty out-of-the-box concepts.

In Nature
Nature soothes, relax and calms. The outdoors is beautiful in real life, but what about the dreams that involve nature? Seeing nature in dreams usually symbolizes brand new starts, blossoming ideas and an influx of emotions.
Water
Water is always in motion. To quote the great Bruce Lee,
Empty your mind. Be formless, be shapeless, like water.
Water has the power to adapt. Water has the ability to be calm or the power to crash like waves. Hence, dreams where you envision water has a lot to do with your emotional state, changes and flow. Water takes many forms: rain, snow, river, lake, waterfall, sea. In all instances, seeing water in your dreams is a symbol of healing, beginnings and refreshment. Even in dreams about storms, because weather is only a season, it still rings true.
Tips: Are you seeing yourself battling rapids, struggling in water, or submerging in and out? They all have a lot to do with your emotions overwhelming you.
On the contrary, if you see yourself swimming happily in a pool, lake, or any other body of water, this reflects positive attitudes. It’s the best time to create, call a relative, or start new goals. With a such a winning mood taking you over, you are able to accomplish more, faster and with eases.
Furthermore, if you see yourself bathing or taking a shower, this doesn’t mean that you need to amp up your spa habits, it actually means that it is time to cleanse yourself of negativity.
Beach
Sand, warmth, water and sunshine. The beach is always on my mind.
Is the beach a part of your dreams? Emotionally, a beach dream highlights your wish to express your emotions. On the other hand, when you see islands, or if it is you alone on the beach, it might mean that you need to prioritize yourself. This kind of dream also hints at your desire to escape responsibilities and routine.
Tips: If you are insecure about they way you feel sometimes, know that every emotion is valid. We all experience things differently and it is okay to cry when you feel sad. It is also totally okay to feel angry when your patience runs out. Keep in mind, that although every emotion has a time and place, we should not let emotions control us, our decisions nor our lives.
It is a good thing to give gifts, make others smile, spend your time with loved ones. Just don’t forget to put yourself first as well. Make some time to pamper yourself. Always make sure to allow for some alone to reflect on what to prioritize in your life.
Animals
Besides the sheep you might see and keep count of before sleep, dreams with animals in them are very telling.
This dream sounds the alarm. It can reveal the emotions or qualities that you should work on or express more in your daily life. Pay attention to the animal in your dream. Also, keep in mind the traditional associations with that particular animal.
Each animal brings forth its own meaning.
Tips: A lion represents leadership and valor. A horse represents strength. An elephant denotes patience. A cheetah suggests focus and adaptability. A tiger symbolizes power and intelligence. A giraffe stands for working on communication and grace.
Aquatic animals are also included. Whales represent creativity. Dolphins indicate a longing for playfulness and more joy in life. A seal represents trust, whether that be in yourself or others. A sea otter expresses never-ending curiosity, learning and empathy.
Birds
It’s a good sign if your dream about a bird or a flock of birds. This usually means that you truly see life as a blessing and joy. This can also indicate that a project you’ve been working on is on the up-and-up. Therefore, it is unnecessary to stress. This dream is letting you know that you are ready and prepared for flight.
In the same way each animal has its own association, birds too have connotations. The type of bird we see can give you a hint on suppressed emotions or feelings that you are not quite comfortable representing in waking life.
Tips: Predatory birds like eagles, hawks and falcons, although they may seem threatening actually indicate insecurities. For example, depending on your current real life situation, seeing an eagle in your dream might mean that you either a) need to work on building inner strength or feeling more self-assured; or b) should ease on having too much self pride, as boasting and feeling superior to others is not a sign of balance or strength.
Dreams of smaller birds and song birds are the indication of fresh starts. These dreams can indicate that there is new inspiration coming.
The sight of an injured bird in a dream can mean that a relationship is keeping you from spreading your wings. Make sure to check in with yourself and see how people in your life have an impact on you. Then communicate this with your loved one, friend, significant other, or relative.
Gardens/ Mountains/ Trees
Huge landscapes usually go undetected when we are looking for signs within our dreams. These kind of dreams pull on the strings on our spiritual and emotional development.
Forests represent the unknown and exploration. These dreams have a lot to do with your current mental state. Depending on the context, these dreams can lean either way. If you see a tumultuous, dark forest, and it frightens you, this refers to feeling lost or confused. Hence, it is letting you know that you should trust your intuition more, build inner strength and reconnect with what really matters in your life. However, if your mood within the dream forest is of curiosity, wonder and happiness, it means that you’ve put your real-life adventures on hold for too long. Grab your essentials and go seek some nature.
Gardens indicate personal growth. Dreams of open valleys and lush grass suggest a desire to be closer to nature.
Sleep On It
Remember that dreams are individually tailored. Dreams are not by any means constant or concrete in meaning. Dreams have a multitude of interpretations and the more we are aware of the meanings, the better we can assess what we see in our sleep.
