December by the ocean, under a beautiful gray sky

An outing to the beach in Early December. Come along!

It might sound and look crazy, but the warm December air kicked in. It was only a matter of time until this happened. Around here it is very likely to experience moderate summer heat in winter. Just when you think you can wear a lovely wool-knitted sweater and gloves— nuh-uh, not quite yet.

Warmer temps.

You could feel it in the early a.m., warm gusty winds blowing through and around. A warm day in December is unheard of in some places around this time of year; I definitely have felt and experienced many European winters. So, I am very much grateful for this kind of weather.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a scorching hot day with a blue sky and blazing yellow sun. On the contrary, the sun rarely made an appearance out of the cloud-covered sky, but at 23°C (74° Fahrenheit), the beach was almost empty, with just a few joggers and workout peeps doing their thing. It was just perfection.

Something about that gray sky.

Gray skies are quite beautiful too, especially when your backdrop consists of crashing waves and palm trees.

Sure I love summer days with a bright blue sky, but there’s something about a gray sky. It brings about a calming and peaceful effect. It reminds me to stay alert and awake to the beauty that surrounds no matter the weather or conditions.

It reminds me that “wherever I am, there I am.” Sunny days are lovely, but does that mean gray days are not? Are hot summer days better than cold days?

I thought about this the other day, but realized quickly, that controlling the outside temperature is not really up to us, but controlling our attitude is.

And I must agree with the Scandinavians and Nordic folks who say,

“There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.”

My positive mindset.

I can’t surf without a good summer day and tepid water, and I can’t ski without a good winter day that brings with it fresh powder. And so, they both must exist. In a good balance.
