Anime is a true art form. From its characters to colorful story lines, there’s a lot to appreciate. There are so many titles out there to satisfy your anime craving, but then there are those anime stories that captivate, practically change your life and leave you wanting more when the last episode of the series fades to black. Here are the best titles you need to watch.
The classics.
These are the ultimate anime classics. From the everything-hand-drawn art, to the creative mastery, the anime creators of the Classic Anime redefined the anime genre and set the foundation for every anime out there.
1. Dragon Ball + Dragon Ball Z
I grew up watching this series. Yet, there’s no bias here whatsoever. Good anime is good anime.
The creator, Akira Toriyama, is the mastermind behind many anime titles that deserve merit. He created “Dragon Ball” in 1984 and the rest is history.
“Dragon Ball” is still going strong and as of the year twenty-twenty, there’s talk of taking “Dragon Ball” beyond the “Super Series”. That will take some time to finally be released if ever. I’d settle for a new movie release. Those never disappoint.
2. Sailor Moon
This is the girl-power anime. Brave Tuxedo Mask makes a few appearances throughout the series. [Swoon!]
Naoko Takeuchi is the creator behind this epic masterpiece. In 1991, she took a pen to paper and drew a girl from outer space. The rest of the girl squad joined the team and Takeuchi’s “Sailor Moon” came to life.
The Sailor Scouts go through life and learn lessons about school, work, family, friends and love. They do all of that, plus fight evil by moonlight. These episodes tackle real-life situations and wrap each episode with a nice, little bow of advice. The scouts are tough, each has her own unique powers and they are champions of justice.
3. Bleach
This one is a modern classic brought to life by author Tite Kubo. It’s timeless, all the characters are created with purpose and the story line just keeps evolving. With each episode, this anime keeps getting better and better. It is only 366 episodes long, but within that length, “Bleach” has it all: action, comedy, quotes, and Bankai!
Alas, all good things come to an end. Although this anime is perfection, there are no new episodes or movies to be released in the near future. [Tears!]
More anime to add to your bucket list
The following titles are fresh and modern.
4. Vinland Saga
I finally (and tearfully) finished watching “Vinland Saga” (released 2019). It was bittersweet as the anime wrapped up its final episode. Luckily, there will be a sequel available in 2021 by the summer.
This anime, created by manga author Makoto Yukimura, is not a lengthy show; it is only 24 episodes. The pace is quick, the action is consistent and the story is poignantly historical. It’s a story of mighty Vikings.
5. One-Punch Man
It is fun to watch villains getting blasted with one single punch. Saitama, the main character, is quite the character. He is straightforward, no cheating, no cutting corners— 100% hero.
This dynamic anime is unorthodox. “One-Punch Man” packs quite the punch.
Anime love
I love finding new anime and sometimes it’s difficult to find a good title to watch. Sometimes, without wanting to, you can come across a hidden, rare gem. You are taken aback by the intriguing title, you start watching and by the end it’s become one of your favorites. Ah! Been there, done that. That’s the beauty of anime. There is a world of anime to explore.
My love for anime goes back many years. I appreciate the hard work artists do and the long hours they go through all in the name of creating art. From the beginnings of character development, to outlining a story line, to drawing intricate backdrops, there is nothing else like ANIME.
Stay happy, stay healthy.
