It’s mid-May and today is just beautiful. The perfect day for some trees, fresh air and higher ground. Thankfully, California has some of the best secluded areas to hike and to be one with nature. Let’s go!

Winter in May
On the other side of the mountain, a slice of winter paradise exists and not a lot of people know about it. This remote haven is a wintry astonishing sight. This winter wonderland portrait stands in stark contrast to the rock formations that sit under the open sun some miles to the east.
Snow in the middle of the month of May in California. I was very excited to see snow. At first, just a trickle of snow, which became a lot of snow and then heaps of snow. A lot of snow for spring in California-yay!
Much like rain, I have a keen appreciation for snow. The State of California rarely gets snow in these parts during springtime and so when it’s here, I make the most out of it.
The Inspiration

Prep
I wished for a lot of snow this year and the universe did not disappoint. Knowing that the snow would come and go just as quickly, I knew I had to act quickly and plan a hike.
That means, I bring along with me my 40oz/30ml water bottle and some protein bars. Hiking shoes are a must so that my feet feel like they’re walking on clouds. Clouds with great grip.
Also, thinking ahead, I knew that the weather would be much colder up north than in the city. With that in mind, I wore wool basics (base layers) and remembered to take my gloves. I also packed my vest to put on or take off depending on the temperature outside upon arrival.

Spring’s Last Snow
Just in time. Made it to the top of the mountain before the spring summer-like heat begins to settle in. It was a great adventure among the pines and snow.
I took some time to get away from the city, the stress, and usual routine. The introvert in me was happy. Especially in a time when we are to socially distance from others, this was the perfect escape.
Go on the adventure with me. Get ready to go on a nature hike, decrease stress and feel good.
