Clean your home.

Clean your lovely home base, doll. Live a better and healthier life by creating a space that’s restored, beautiful, and all your own. Feel accomplished and productive. The help is right here.

Springtime seems to evoke a sense of clarity, newness and cleanliness for me. I am a believer in the quote:

“Clear your space, clear your mind.”

Minimalizing is an ongoing goal that I like to put into practice. Sometimes it makes me roll my eyes and cross my arms, and sometimes I feel joy in organizing and clearing up. I put myself through this, because I love coming home to a tidy, clean place.

Let the cleaning begin.

When March rolls around, I’m spring cleaning. I look through what I can donate or sell— my clothes, kitchen items, gadgets and gizmos, whozits and whatzits (ode to The Little Mermaid). With all the trinkets out, I also start a “throw out” pile. True, some things do not deserve to be handed down.

Hold it right there! Spring cleaning is not that easy. It can take a toll mentally. Therefore, take the one-day-at-a-time approach.

Believe me. I’ve been there. My entire weekend becomes a sorry-I-can’t-do-anything-else-today kind of weekend. No, no, no. This approach doesn’t really work when you want to create a healthy habit.

Usually, when you try and take care of it all in one day, you can feel backed into a corner and you might either a) throw it all out due to frustration or; b) pack it all up and hide it behind a closet or inside drawers. The saying “out of sight, out of mind” is what we want to steer away from.

This just in: “In sight, In mind.” — Oh yes, this saying is in full effect right now.

So the laundry is all over the place, the dirty dishes seem to pile up up every single time by the end of the day, the desk has a drawer filled with who-knows-what, your backpack always seems to gain a pound. Whatever your situation, take a breather.

Help is here!

The printout I have provided you with can help you start the cleanup process easily. It’s the approach I take, but with some tweaks. Adjust it to your availability. We all have different schedules, we all have those it’s-so-difficult-to-get-out-of-bed days. It’s great to acknowledge it and also a good thing to not shame ourselves because of it.

The takeaway.

Hey doll, don’t stress. We are all living busy lives, but that doesn’t mean that the place we call home should be neglected. Take your time with this process. Like everything, change doesn’t come overnight or after a day of putting what we just learned into practice. We are trying to hone a healthy habit here. A habit that helps us on a daily basis rather than a one-and-done kind of thing

When we simply do (the decluttering, cleaning, the washing of those stubborn dishes), this habit becomes second nature. We instinctively start to learn that it’s better to do things now rather than later.

Finding more hours in a day.

The more we take care of things now, the more free time we have later. Trust. I’ve been there. I have a personal thing with dishes piling up. No one likes scrubbing away at a pile of dishes at night, long after dinner. Think about it, those precious minutes of your time are better spent pampering yourself, catching up on your favorite show or new book, or sleeping.

Remember to go at your own pace.

If you are familiar with the fable about the Tortoise and the Hare**, you know that sometimes even if we move in gradual motion through a challenge/goal, we still win the race. The key is to always keep moving.

However, sometimes you might be in fast rabbit mode and run through quickly. Yay! Sometimes you’ll feel more like a turtle. It’s okay. They both finished the race, but only one of them had ample time after the race to drink a healthy smoothie, take a shower, eat a meal, hang out with loved ones and get that much needed rest.

No matter your pace, the good thing is you are on your way to creating a place that’s just like you- beautiful, filled with possibility and with room to grow.

**Side note: In 2016, they actually put a turtle and a rabbit to race in a real-life match. The tortoise won every time.

I want to know.

How do you approach things? Is spring cleaning something you dread or something you look forward to like me?
